Reading’s BikeSmart - Encouraging New People to CycleBOOK NOW

Speaker: Marian Marsh CMILT, Transport Planner, Reading Borough Council

Reading’s BikeSmart as part of the Empower EU Project: Encouraging new people to cycle instead of driving using a Smartphone App and other incentives.

The Local Sustainable Transport Fund enabled Reading to deliver improved cycling infrastructure including a bike hire scheme and the development of an incentives App to encourage sustainable travel. Reading’s modal share is slowly increasing but remains low compared to other UK Authorities and Europe, at around 4% for all trips.

BikeSmart aims to double the number of cyclists in the modal split from March to July 2017 by encouraging drivers to switch to cycling through the BetterPoints App offering points and prizes as well as adult cycle trainings, led rides, events and a workplace challenge.

The presentation will draw conclusions on what worked best and what may work for other authorities wishing to implement a similar programme.

Marian Marsh is a Transport Planner at Reading Borough Council, and Lead Officer at Reading for the EMPOWER project.

She has worked collaboratively on EU projects focussing on behaviour change towards sustainable modes, parking information and transport interchange design. About London's Supply Chain Network
The Supply Chain Network has been running since September 2004. It was set up as a networking and learning opportunity for people working within the supply chain in retailers, manufacturers and logistics providers. The group numbers about 50 people, with 20 typically at any one meeting. We meet about every six weeks or so in a pub in central London.

What happens at a Supply Chain Network event?
Networking normally starts from 6pm onwards with snacks at 18:30 and the formal presentation starts from 19:00, with more networking afterwards. We aim to have a mix of 'experts' and presentations from within the group. The environment is very informal. The objective is discussion rather than a formal presenter at the front, with presenters encouraged to bring issues as well as experience.

A light buffet will also be provided.

October 2017
African Hydrogen Power - modern emission free hydrogen fuel cell tech transportation concepts for AfricaBOOK NOW
09/10/2017 18:00:00 - 09/10/2017 20:30:00

When: 9 October 2017, 18:00 - 20:30
Where: Reading Town Hall, Blagrave St, Reading, RG1 1QH
Meeting Point: Soane Space

Speaker: Siegfried Huegemann

Batteries are too large, heavy, and too costly for the African transportation market. No other technology can compete with hydrogen fuel cells when it comes to emission-free heavy-load, long-haul, and light-weight transport.

Africa is a gold mine for renewable energy due to abundant solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower resources. Hydrogen can be easily stored and transported using existing modern technologies. Power-to-Gas (P2G) is the process of managing the intermittent character of renewable energy, converting the surplus renewable energy into hydrogen, and delivering green hydrogen to the distribution system. Hear how it can be done with a presentation from Siegfried Huegemann.

About the speaker:
Siggi rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the German Army before gaining a Masters of Commerce in Finance and Quantative Analysis. He has specialised in Banking Technology since 1997 and currently manages derivatives technology with a leading asset management company. Since 2014, Siggi has driven the African Hydrogen Power initiative and network. African Hydrogen Power is dedicated to promoting green hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Africa.
