When: 12 Sep 2017, 17.45 for 18:30 - 20:00

Speaker: Captain Hugh Dibley, FRAeS, FRIN, FCILT

Flight Simulators have been in use since 1909 when early aircraft were unstable and difficult to fly in good weather, greatly improving safety by teaching pilots to fly in cloud on instruments and now civil pilots can be trained and checked on top level simulators without the expense of flying aircraft making flight simulators essential for airline viability. Aircraft manufacturers have always used simulation in some form to assist in the design and development of aircraft and now with computerisation engineering flight simulators are central to the whole process from conception through to flight test monitoring and possible in service improvements. Hugh will discuss the history and development of current systems and the future need for flight simulators and pilot training and how to help pilots carry maximum payload at minimum cost.
Videos of incidents illustrating the need for flight training will be shown.

Refreshments will be provided before the event.
