The University of Derby's 'Annual Logistics Week' promotes engagement and interaction with leading companies locally and nationally. Organised by The Centre for Supply Chain Improvement and CILT, the event  takes place this year  between February 22nd and 26th with leading industry figures imparting their experience and knowledge to students with real examples of key logistics topics throughout the week.

This year the theme is 'Rail and its importance in the future of the UK economy' and will culminate in a Keynote Evening to which all CILT members are invited. A networking buffet from 17:30 will be followed by the Keynote speech from Pete Waterman OBE, DL.

This years' guest speaker is Dr Pete Waterman OBE, DL; successful British producer-songwriter, author, DJ, Pop Idol judge, television presenter and lifelong entrepreneur.

About Dr Pete Waterman OBE, DL

Dr Pete Waterman OBE, DL. Pete is the most successful British producer-songwriter in pop history and has sold in excess of 500 million records around the world over five decades, launching artists such as Kylie Minogue, John Travolta, Rick Astley and Steps.

Beyond music, Pete has a lifelong love for the railways. Since buying the first national rail franchise in 1993, Pete has continued to contribute massively to the preservation and development of this historic and essential industry. In 1997, he established London & North Western Railway, a state-of-the-art independent railway maintenance company. In 2005 he sold LNWR to Arriva (now DB Schenker), allowing him to focus on Britain’s largest railway heritage business, London & North Western Railway Heritage Company, an independent facility in Crewe for the repair and maintenance of diesel locomotives.

Pete also led the campaign for a National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering, of which he has been Patron since its establishment in 2010. Having worked with successive Secretaries of State for Transport to campaign for HS2, Pete accepted the invitation to join the Government’s HS2 Growth Taskforce in 2013.
