Description: When: Thursday 10 March 2016, 1730 (for 1800) - 2100 Where: Stoddart Building, Sheffield Hallam University, Arundel Gate SHEFFIELD, S1 2ND Meeting Point: Stoddart Building Café Speakers: William Vannier, Supply Chain Director, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Nick Murdoch, Global Head - Aid & Relief Services, DHL Global Forwarding Alistair Lamb, Consultant, Charity Effectiveness The logistical support of humanitarian aid projects in relief of sudden and slow onset disasters around the world produces an interesting and challenging environment for logistics professionals and volunteers. Working with volatility and uncertainty, in terms of available products and transport modes available to send much needed aid to satisfy highly contextual need events, demands agility and a level of responsiveness normally only found in military logistics. This is therefore an almost unique environment which requires significant adaptation to overcome barriers. Whilst aid workers operate within similar time and cost utility perspectives the stakes are often much higher.
Our three speakers will give different perspectives in the sector, corporate transport and distribution, in-theatre distribution, often working with fragile or incomplete infrastructure and charities offering support to those who need it most. This should be an interesting and insightful debate on the logistics challenges that this sector faces over the next 10 years. A light buffet will also be provided.
