Coronavirus: The next stage of recovery for buses

26 June 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Transport Planning, Coronavirus

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport has sent a joint letter to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, outlining proposals for a Covid-19 recovery plan for the bus sector.

The letter puts forward the thoughts of bus operators, bus users and professional associations, that sets out proposals to increase the capacity of the bus industry to meet increased demand following the relaxation of restrictions in the hospitality, retail and personal services sector.

Government messaging on public transport has reduced passenger numbers very effectively but, with both retail and hospitality sectors now opening up, it is essential that buses can play their part in returning the nation to near normal. This is absolutely necessary if the UK is to address longer term health emergency and achieve the government's decarbonisation and air quality objectives.
