Privacy Statement

CILT(UK) endeavours to treat your personal data with the respect and care which it deserves, using our best endeavours to ensure that it is appropriate for the purpose for which it is to be used and is accurate and complete and kept up-to-date.

What personal information is collected from me and how is it used?
The CILT(UK) Web site collects online information in a number of ways. This is normally recorded through the use of online forms, which will ask for information such as name, home/company address, email, telephone, fax, job function, preferred mailing address, where did you hear about the Institute and its services?

In order to tailor communications to individuals, we will ask for voluntary information, such as professional interests and experience within the profession.

CILT(UK) will use your information to help complete transactions and requests submitted through the Web site. The information may be used to personalise sections of the Web site based on a profile developed of you from the information given. Internally the information may be used for research purposes for Institute activities.

If agreed by you, CILT(UK) will accept from time to time approved mailings to the membership database. The Institute will act as a mailing facility, this maybe for third-parties. CILT(UK) recognises the need to protect individual information, only when consent is given will the Institute provide a mailing facility to third-parties for approved mailings and will not divulge your personal information unless specifically authorised by yourself for any particular purpose.

What security does CILT(UK) use to protect your personal data online?
CILT(UK) takes reasonable precautions to protect sensitive information you submit through the Web site. This is indicated by the presence of the 'lock' icon on your browser, which signifies the use of encryption using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Sensitive information:
When asked to provide sensitive information, such as credit and/or debit card, the information submitted is encrypted using industry standard SSL. When viewing a secure page, such as the 'Application for Fast Track' form, a lock icon will appear on the bottom of your Web browser. To view the information on the SSL certification click on the lock icon.

Non-sensitive information:
Not all information submitted through the Web site will be encrypted by SSL. Emails, forms requesting information and feedback forms via the Web site are not secure. Any information submitted via these forms is done so at your own risk. CILT(UK) will not be responsible for any personal information sent by email.

CILT(UK) takes reasonable precautions to ensure that access to sensitive and non-sensitive information is restricted to Institute authorised personnel.

Back office procedures:
The CILT(UK) Web server is based, under an agreement with a third-party ISP, in the United Kingdom. The ISP, together with CILT(UK), take reasonable precautions to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place for hosting this service.

CILT(UK) does not authorise payments on-line. Payment details are submitted securely via the Web, once received, payment authorisation is acquired via a Barclay Merchant Services PDQ terminal. The Institute will contact you directly if a problem arises with any payment.

Information is downloaded from our ISP-based secure server through the use of our back office systems. The transmission of this information, from our Web site to back office systems will be encrypted.

Cookies

When someone visits www.ciltuk.org.uk we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. We will not associate any data gathered from this site with any personally identifying information from any source unless we  tell you specifically and will explain what we intend to do with it, unless the need is clear.

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.

Access to member resources
CILT(UK) has a secure members only area on the Web site. Only members of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) have access to this resource. Validation credentials will be generated and supplied by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK), for the use only of the individual member. All information held on the Web site, such as your personal details, to enable you to amend/view records held by CILT(UK), will be secure and only available to you.

The CILT(UK)'s Web site contains links to other sites. Such links are sanctioned by our Corporate Communications Team. For what purpose do we use the information gathered and with whom is it shared?
The information gathered by CILT(UK) about you is used primarily to manage your membership within the Institute. This includes mailings and for us to form an interest consensus to ensure the distribution of any material and/or products/services has a relevance to you. No information we gather will be shared or distributed, with any third-party without prior consent from you.

Keeping your data safe
The Institute will take reasonable measures to ensure good practices and procedures are in place with regards to the security of data. Including regular reviews of current practices.

Electronic-based, electronically stored data is reasonably secure. The CILT(UK) storage servers are locked away, in a controlled secure environment. Only authorised personal have access.

Paper-based documentation received in respect of the individuals is stored in a secure orderly manner.
