Stadler Rail Service UK Limited is a subsidiary of Stadler Rail AG, Switzerland. Stadler provides a train maintenance service for a growing number of clients in the UK. In the next few years over 100 new Stadler trains will be joining the English railway network. Stadler is headquartered in Liverpool, a vibrant city in the North West of the United Kingdom. Stadler chose Liverpool for its UK Headquarters because of its great transport links to other parts of the country, and being centrally positioned for the other contracts that Stadler has won. In 2016 alone, Stadler won three tenders with integrated solutions – vehicles and maintenance – in the United Kingdom: 52 METRO trains for the Liverpool urban region, 58 FLIRT multiple unit trains for Abellio East Anglia and 17 underground trains for the Glasgow Subway (SPT). The continuous low-floor design ensures level access, while sliding steps minimize the gap between the vehicle and platform. Jacobs bogies ensure a reduced axle load, and efficient drives – electric, diesel or hybrid – reduce operating costs over the entire life cycle. Low life-cycle costs are one of Stadler’s core strengths. Stadler Liverpool is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the Merseyrail 507 and 508 class of train. In 2021, Stadler will phase out the existing fleet and introduce a new metro train, class 777. The maintenance, shunting and cleaning activities for both new and old fleets will take place at the Kirkdale and Birkenhead North depots. Stadler currently has a workforce of around 7000 employees around the world.
