Chris Markey FCMI FCILT
Director, Chris Markey Associates Ltd
Following a career in the Royal Air Force over 35 years, Chris has been providing professional supply chain, logistics and leadership advice to commercial and academic enterprises since 2009.
As a military logistician, Chris’s focus was largely operational, moving through the ranks in support of the UK’s deployable air components including the Jaguar Force, UK and Germany Harrier and Helicopter Forces, serving two tours in Tactical Supply field units – often as the sole ground RAF presence in a Joint environment. As a policy staff officer, he retained an operational perspective as the MoD Air Staff logistic war planner, the RAF’s and then NATO’s operational contingency planner and, latterly, as the Assistant Director Capability in ACDS(Log Ops) staffs
As Deputy Commander of the Joint Force Logistic Component in Kuwait and Iraq in 2003, he was part of the command team that successfully managed the reception, staging and onward movement of 42,000 personnel into Iraq in 2003, in half the time taken during the liberation of Kuwait in 1992, and supported the war-fighting phase of Operation TELIC I. He subsequently managed the transformation of the support organisation post-conflict to create a single logistic base, and reduce manning from 7800 to 3000 personnel in support of stabilisation operations during Operation TELIC II. His last tour in the MoD was as a policy director responsible for the development and implementation of national and international policy for the UK Armed Forces Reserves. His remit covered operational use, health, welfare, employer support, communications and legislation.
Chris is the Chairman of the NRCC, Defence Forum, and the Thames Valley Group for the CILT, and mentors young entrepreneurs in the Levant through the charitable foundation Mowgli. He is married to Julie, a Finance Manager in the charitable sector, and they have two adult sons.
