The John Lewis Partnership's 87,000 partners own the leading UK retail businesses - John Lewis and Waitrose. Our founder's vision of a successful business powered by its people and its principles defines our unique company today. The profits and benefits created by our success are shared by all our Partners. The first 10 Waitrose shops joined the John Lewis Partnership in 1937; today there are over 350, including convenience branches, as well as shops at Welcome Break service stations, Waitrose.com online and our own farm, the Leckford Estate in Hampshire. We also have a number of shops in the Middle East and export Waitrose products to 58 countries worldwide.

The complexity created by the growth in channels to market and enhanced competition from online retailers has put the Supply Chain to the forefront of our business. Over 4,000 Partners currently work in the Waitrose Supply Chain led by Wim Van Aalst, Supply Chain Director. Partners work across Distribution, Product Supply and Distribution Development and Transport. The Waitrose Supply Chain had grown to support the model of a core supermarket, the concept of which is becoming increasingly diluted in today's market. Consequently, with multiple channels to serve due to changes to consumer behaviour; our primary focus is to ensure our operation is agile and flexible to enable us to anticipate and respond to market conditions and provide optimised fulfilment across all channels.

Following a brief presentation into how we are facing into the above, delegates will be given a tour of the Bracknell RDC site with an opportunity to ask any questions. Bracknell RDC is the longest standing of all of our sites and subsequently demonstrates the challenge of preparing the supply chain in its current form against what will be needed in the future.
