Hear from industry experts, John Davies, VP Industry Relations at Trainline, Alistair Lees Managing Director, Assertis and Stuart Fox-Mills Programme Director Fares, Ticketing and Retail at Great British Railway Transition Team as to hear their views on the future of rail retailing and how this is an integral part of the recovery of Britain's railways.

Speaker Bios: John Davies, VP Industry Relations, Trainline: John is Vice President of Industry Relations and has been with Trainline since 2010. He started his railway career in York as InterCity East Coast became GNER in the early 1990s, and joined National Express digital retailer Qjump in 2002. After a period outside the industry John worked with National Express and later CrossCountry on Franchise Bidding and Mobilisation projects before joining Trainline in 2010 to develop their mobile ticketing strategy. In 2014 John and some of his fellow retailers (including Alistair, at Assertis) began a collaboration with RSP and some TOCs to introduce the first interoperable mobile tickets on the network and from this, the industry’s Barcode programme was born. John now oversees Trainline’s future ticketing and industry relations strategy.
Alistair Lees, Managing Director, Assertis Alistair has been running Assertis, the independent ticket retailer and systems supplier, since 2007, and has been working in rail - including stints at Railtrack, First Group, Arriva, the SRA and ATOC (as it then was) - since the 1990s.He is an expert on ticketing, fares and the data and systems that support these. He is a passionate advocate of putting the customer first, and of focusing on the whole rail product experienced by the customer. Alistair has chaired Independent Rail Retailers, which represents the majority of tickets sold online, since its inception in 2017. He speaks regularly at industry events, in Parliament and with a wide variety of industry stakeholders on all matters related to fares and ticketing.
Stewart Fox-Mills, Programme Director, Fares, Ticketing and Retail, Great British Railway Transition Team & Commercial Director UK – Abellio
Stewart is Director of Fares, Ticketing and Retail at GBRTT. The programme he leads is delivering transformational change and improvement to customer experience. An experienced commercial leader, Stewart has led successful marketing, digital, product and customer experience strategies in media, retail, financial services, technology and rail industries – most recently as Commercial Director at Abellio.
