Vince takes a detailed look at High Speed 1, including the story so far on both domestic and international services, its economic value to the UK, Kent and the wider South East Region, current issues and passenger trends as well as likely future developments including the much hoped for reinstatement of Eurostar services to/from Ebbsfleet and Ashford following ‘Temporary’ withdrawal during the Covid epidemic.

Vince has been part of the Channel tunnel story since 1991 having helped create the operational regime for international services, advised on the design and development of HS1, led the team that created the international and domestic track access agreements and as a director at Southeastern was responsible for the successful introduction of the domestic services through to the delivery of the Olympic transport plan. 

Vince has been involved in economic development for over 20 years and chaired Ashford’s Future and is currently deputy chair of the Kent and Medway Economic partnership and is a board member of Transport for South East.

It's the large items that usually come to mind when we think of transport heritage, but the likes of Flying Scotsman and the Forth Bridge enjoy plenty of protection. Not so the smaller things such as signs, clocks and weighing machines that give character to railway journeys but can be at risk of removal at the whim of a management set on modernisation. Taking examples from throughout Britain, transport writer and campaigner Daniel Wright makes a plea to save these items whose familiarity he believes attract people to train travel and for which the first need may be to compile a list of what's there. Daniel is a transport planner whose first job after graduating from Aston University was at the newly-created Institute of Logistics and Transport in London, where he worked during 1999 as a Policies Assistant.
