Tesco sticking with Eddie Stobart for distribution contract

28 July 2016/Categories: Industry News

Eddie Stobart has successfully extended a contract to manage UK distribution centre transport operations for Tesco.

The renewal followed a long and tough tender process and will see Eddie Stobart continue to run transport from seven UK distribution centres for the supermarket giant as well as two centres in the Republic of Ireland.

The relationship between the two goes back more than a decade and it’s not all been plain sailing. In 2012, there was a four-month dispute after Tesco transferred the running of its Doncaster distribution centre to Eddie Stobart, resulting in the redundancies of 184 Tesco-employed drivers.

A spokesperson for Eddie Stobart said the firm was delighted that it would remain working with Tesco.

“The continuation of our relationship marks more than ten years working together and underlines the value of the Eddie Stobart network across the UK and beyond, bringing unrivalled efficiencies and value to our customers,” they commented.

“We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with Tesco, further leveraging our integrated network and two way movements to maximum effect.”
