TfL plans Camden Town’s track upgrade throughout August

29 July 2016/Categories: Industry News

Tube passengers that change or pass through Camden Town station may experience disruption from the end of July and throughout August as essential track replacement work is carried out.

The modernisation work, set to begin from this weekend, will result in a swifter and more reliable service, according to Transport for London (TfL).

David Hughes, London Underground's director of strategy, said: "While Camden Town is one of the busiest junctions on the Tube network, it still relies on decades-old infrastructure.

“Replacing the tracks will improve reliability for our customers and will ensure we're prepared for the future.”

The work has been scheduled to take place in August to coincide with the network’s quieter months and the school summer holidays, Mr Hughes added.

While the work takes place, there will be changes to the northbound Northern line services between Monday 1 and Friday 5 August. These mean that Charing Cross branch trains will only go to High Barnet / Mill Hill East, and Bank branch trains will only go to Edgware.

Camden Town station will only be exit-only during this week too between 4-7pm. Passengers are advised to avoid changing at Camden Town or Euston during peak times, and if the station gets too busy, trains may not stop there at all.

There will also be no service between Hampstead / High Barnet / Mill Hill East and Charing Cross / Moorgate over three weekends too: July 30-31, August 6-7, August 20-21. Instead, a bus replacement service will be in place.
