Supply chain boost for NHS logistics

09 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

NHS Supply Chain has taken charge of an additional 120 vehicles as it aims to bolster its logistics fleet operations in the coming months.

Logistics Manager reports an entire fleet replacement programme is now underway for the organisation, with a full overhaul of the body's existing logistical operations and capabilities.

Indeed, the new vehicles will all be delivered by DAF Trucks and include 49 LF 14-tonne rigids, 50 CF 18-tonners, 16 CF 400 drawbar units and five CF 460 FTG six-by-two tractors. In addition, a further 19 trailers will be provided by Gray & Adams.

Tim Slater, chief executive officer at NHS Supply Chain, said: "NHS Supply Chain is an essential part of everyday life for the NHS, providing over 300,000 products to 1,000 different customers.

"Our investment in the new vehicle fleet reinforces our commitment to deliver a great service with vastly increased safety and environmental credentials."

The upgraded fleet is expected to deliver considerable efficiency savings for the organisation in the months and years ahead. The body is operated by logistics provider DHL and managed by the NHS Business Services Authority.
