Lincoln city centre is to get a new bus station and 1,000-space car park as part of a £29 million scheme.

The upgrade will not only improve city centre journeys for people living, working or visiting Lincolnshire’s county town but also help generate up to 200 new jobs and deliver an annual economic boost of £9 million for the area.

Public transport passengers will also benefit from the newly-approved upgrades to Lincoln Central railway station and a pedestrianised plaza connecting Lincoln’s bus and rail stations.

Building work will begin within weeks, according to City of Lincoln Council, which is providing £16 million towards the project.

The remainder of the funding is coming from the Department for Transport, which is putting up £11 million, and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (£2 million).

Transport minister Andrew Jones said that the upgrades will be a “huge benefit” for Lincoln people.

“Better transport facilities don’t just help people get around, they help them get on - connecting them to jobs, opportunities and helping deliver economic growth,” he added.
