Lidl plans 624,000 sq ft regional distribution centre near Glasgow

23 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

Lidl will build a new regional distribution centre at Eurocentral in Lanarkshire.

The budget supermarket chain has already exchanged contracts to secure the 50-acre site where it will construct a sustainable 624,000 sq ft regional distribution centre.

The building will replace Lidl’s existing warehouse in Livingston and will fuel the chain’s ongoing UK expansion. It will be designed and built to meet a demanding BREEAM target of ‘very good’, which means it will have a high level of energy and water efficiency, and a low impact on the environment.

Ross Millar, MD for Lidl in Scotland, said: “We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to servicing our existing 91 stores and future new stores from our new distribution hub, allowing us to continue offering our customers the best quality products at the lowest possible prices.”

Building will commence in 2017 after a planning application was submitted and approved.

Lidl is also expected to open regional distribution centres in Bristol, Exeter, Wednesbury and Southampton over the next year.
