Britain’s most dangerous roundabouts revealed

24 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

Eight of the ten most dangerous roundabouts in Britain are located in London, according to road accident data from the past six years.

The roundabout outside London’s Elephant and Castle station led the list with 163 road accidents recorded on the roundabout between 2009 and 2015.

Central Birmingham’s Bordesley Circus tied with Newham’s Royal Dock Road for the title of Britain’s second most dangerous roundabout, with 105 accidents each. Fourth place was Broxbourne’s Great Cambridge Road/Churchill Way.

The other six entries were at Redbridge Tube Station (99), Barnet’s Edgware Road/North Circular (88), Lewisham High Street (84), Enfield’s Great Cambridge Junction (80), Hounslow’s Hogarth Roundabout (77) and Heath Interchange in North East Derbyshire (74).

A total of 14,324 road accidents occurred on Britain’s roundabouts in 2015, almost 1,000 fewer than the 15,209 recorded during the previous year.

Despite the drop, the number of fatal accidents on UK roundabouts almost doubled on the preceding year, jumping from 30 in 2014 to 54 in 2015.
