Eddie Stobart has brought in a fleet of 50 new specialist box trailers as the haulier continues to develop its online fulfilment business.
The trailers, manufactured by SDC using the latest lightweight materials, have been designed to maximise payloads and accommodate a mix of loose parcels and roller cages.
They have gone into work immediately to deliver time-critical express trunking between sorting centres and ‘final mile’ depots.
Neil Rowbotham, online fulfilment sector director at Eddie Stobart, said the trailers marked “a significant investment” and demonstrated the company’s commitment to the fast-growing online retail sector.
He commented: “The new trailers, in addition to our high-spec tautliners, will bring greater efficiencies and flexibility to our business by facilitating the fast and secure movement of loose parcels typical of online fulfilment, but with the capacity to accommodate conventional wheeled cages as well.”
Mr Rowbotham added that this gave them the flexibility to meet the needs of the online market.
