Whistl bags first Northern Ireland Government postal contract

25 August 2016/Categories: Industry News

Whistl will handle postal services for the Northern Ireland Government for up to five years after securing a new contract.

The deal will see Britain’s second largest postal operator collect, sort and transport mail to Royal Mail for doorstep delivery for a wide number of government and public sector bodies including education, health, finance, colleges and transport.

The contract win will see Whistl handle an additional 20 million items, bumping the volume of mail processed in Northern Ireland past 60 million.

As a result of the win, the company will be investing in its Belfast-based sortation depot in Hightown Industrial Estate, creating ten new jobs, covering operational staff and mail collection drivers.

Whistl CEO Nick Wells said: “We are delighted that we won the contract on our ability to provide a cost-effective quality service that will benefit the Northern Ireland taxpayer through lower postal costs but also to help get people back into the workplace.”
