Kickstarter campaign brings home 3D printing closer to the masses

03 October 2016/Categories: Industry News

Barely a week goes by where 3D printing isn’t grabbing headlines somewhere in the world. However, the price and size of the printers themselves have been a stumbling block for most public consumers.

The benefits of having your own 3D printer are plentiful and unlock many advantages for artists and designers, but they’re not exactly the most straightforward machines to use.

That could all be about to change though, thanks to San Diego company Robo, which is offering what look like two of the most user-friendly 3D printers yet.

Coming with built-in touchscreens and Wi-Fi connectivity, the C2 and R2 smart 3D printers promise ‘unparalleled freedom to make whatever you can imagine and print every 3D piece right from your mobile device using the new Robo app’.

Both products are the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign that at time of writing has achieved more than 250 per cent of its investment goal with three weeks to go.

The compact C2 will go on general sale in November, with the high performance R2 following in January 2017.
