TfL wants your views on its plans for a new pedestrian and cycling crossing.

If the proposals go ahead, Londoners could benefit from a river crossing linking Canada Water and Canary Wharf.

Pedestrians and cyclists currently have limited opportunities to cross the river east of Tower Bridge easily and safely. The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is at capacity at peak times and the Rotherhithe Tunnel, which is the only other permanent option, is regularly avoided by pedestrians and cyclists.

A new river crossing would help with the substantial growth in east London in recent years, and provide an easy alternative to the Jubilee line and other river crossings for those trips that could be made on foot or by bike.

TfL has been working with engineering consultants and shortlisted three options - an improved ferry service, a bridge, or a tunnel. Although a bridge is the preferred option, Londoners can recommend alternative designs or options as part of the consultation process.

Subject to responses, there will be a second consultation on the final preferred design next year. This will pave the way for planning applications in early 2019.
