CILT seeks further support for bus and coach sector

12 May 2020/Categories: CILT, Press Releases, Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Transport Planning, Coronavirus

Your Institute, alongside the Association of Transport Co-ordination Officers (ATCO) and the Association of Directors of Environment, Planning and Transport (ADEPT) wrote to government last week, seeking their attention to a number of issues of concern to the Bus and Coach sector.

Chief amongst these is that many local companies operating coach fleets for excursions and tours at weekends, bank holidays and school holiday period and contracting for school transport and perhaps some (mainly rural) local bus work have so far received no government support but many are close to going out of business. Significant contraction in this segment would cause tremendous problems for schools transport as the lockdown is eased and no doubt significant increases in contract costs post pandemic.
