Dixons Carphone targets electric switch for deliveries

26 August 2020/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Dixon’s Carphone has said it will switch its commercial fleet to either electric or alternatively-fuelled vehicles over the next decade as part of a wider supply chain push to reduce emissions.

The retailer is joining the Climate Group’s EV100 Initiative, which aims at accelerating the transition to electric vehicles as “the new normal” by 2030.

Alongside switching to electric or alternative fuel vehicles, Dixons Carphone said it would be installing electric vehicle charging points across the estate.

Lindsay Haselhurst, chief supply chain officer at Dixons Carphone, said: “With an average of 4 million customer deliveries technology every year, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to work in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way.”

Dixons Carphone said it would also be setting mpg targets for drivers to ensure year-on-year reductions of CO2 emissions.

Christopher Georgiou, head of compliance, supply chain & service operations, Dixons Carphone said: “We are thrilled to be part of the Climate Group’s EV100 initiative.

“This project is one of the many things we are doing to help us reduce our carbon emissions as we will change all our light duty vehicles to EV and hope to transition at least 50% of our medium duty vehicles as well.”
