West Drayton station improvements approved

01 April 2015/Categories: Industry News

Hillingdon Borough Council has given the go-ahead to a programme of major improvements to West Drayton station ahead of Crossrail services coming to the area in 2019.

The plans involve providing step-free access to all platforms with three new lifts, as well as a modern steel and glass covered walkway and extra entrance, which is designed to enhance the existing Victorian structure.

The station’s platforms will also be lengthened to accommodate the 200m Crossrail trains, and additional ticket machines, along with more customer information screens, station signs, help points and CCTV.

Initial work will begin over the Easter holidays, and the full programme of upgrades should be completed in 18 months.
Hillingdon council’s cabinet member for community, commerce and regeneration, Douglas Mills, said: "After the years of planning and deliberation it is exciting to hear that work to upgrade the station will shortly commence, and that this brings us one step closer to the start of the Crossrail service in the borough.”
