HGV task force wins award

12 March 2015/Categories: Industry News

The oldest transport society in the world has given London’s Industrial HGV Task Force an award for its outstanding contribution to road safety.

The Worshipful Company of Carmen presented the group with the Royal Logistic Corps Safety Award for 2014 at a ceremony on March 10th.

Road safety minister Robert Goodwill said: “The task force proves that by working together we can make London’s roads safer for cyclists. The message to drivers and operators is simple: not complying with driver and vehicle standards isn’t an option.”

In the year since it was set up, the task force has seized 41 unsafe vehicles and issued 1,500 vehicle prohibition orders, which means that dangerous HGVs are kept off the road until they are properly repaired. The operations have also led to 25 prosecutions.

The checks are carried out by officers from the Metropolitan Police, the City of London Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
