Row over Forth Bridge speed cameras deepens

23 February 2015/Categories: Industry News

Transport Scotland and the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) are continuing to argue about plans to install average speed cameras along the Forth Bridge.

FETA say that they were not consulted about the proposals, which would involve placing cameras in order to enforce a new speed limit of 40 mph, despite the present 50 mph restriction.

This is because Transport Scotland say that motorists are being distracted by construction work on the nearby Queensferry Bridge, which FETA denies.

FETA chair Lesley Hinds said: “FETA is responsible for setting the speed limit on the Forth Road Bridge. Any reduction in this speed limit can only be implemented by Feta. We were therefore surprised to read comments made to MSPs suggesting that plans were already in place.”
However, Transport Scotland say the proposed changes are an important safety measure, and that all necessary formalities with FETA will be completed before the new limit comes into effect this summer.
