Minister inspects Cornwall transport investments

20 February 2015/Categories: Industry News

The transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin has paid a visit to Cornwall to see the effects of government investment on the area’s connectivity.

His day began at Newquay Airport, which has recently received £2.5 million of government funding to bolster its route to Gatwick. It is increasingly busy, as about 100,000 people use the facility for business and leisure transport each year.

The Camborne Pool-Redruth Link Road was another stop on the itinerary, as it is expected to create 5,500 jobs in the area, and space for 6,200 new homes ahead of its opening later this year.

Mr McLoughlin also visited Truro, where work funded by a Local Growth Fund allocation is underway to alleviate traffic congestion, and Penzance harbour, which is also undergoing improvement works.
He said: “Cornwall is seeing the benefits of the government’s investment in transport. Better road, air, rail and sea links will make the county an even more attractive destination for businesses and visitors.”
