More manufacturers join electric vehicle scheme

18 February 2015/Categories: Industry News

Volkswagen, Audi and Mitsubishi have all agreed to support the Department for Transport (DfT) in its Go Ultra Low initiative, which is aimed at increasing the uptake of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs).

They join BMW, Renault, Nissan and Toyota, who are already involved in producing a range of 15 ULEVs to meet the programme’s specifications. Go Ultra Low also offers a website that helps drivers find the ULEV that best suits their needs.

They can then apply for a government grant of up to £5,000 for an electric car or £8,000 for an electric van.
Transport minister Baroness Kramer said: “The public are increasingly seeing the benefits of ultra-low emission vehicles, which have low running costs and are easily chargeable at home or on the street. We now have seven manufacturers campaigning to show the wide range of styles and prices available so even more people will see what’s on offer, and the significant government help available.”
