An extensive programme of refurbishment is set to get underway on the 140 year-old Scarborough rail bridge, including the replacement of the entire bridge deck. However, this will prevent trains running over the bridge between February 14th and 23rd.
The last trains before the works will leave Scarborough at 10:07pm and York at 10:00pm on February 13th, and resume operations on February 23rd. Instead of First TransPennine trains, rail replacement buses will run between York and Seamer for the duration of the improvements, with an express coach and a stopping service available once per hour in each direction.
Phil Verster, route managing director at Network Rail, said: "We thank rail passengers for their patience as we complete this essential work. The bridge has given good service for 140 years but now needs significant replacement." Network Rail is advising passengers to check their journey plans if they plan to travel along this route, particularly over the busy half-term period.
