Oxfordshire transport consultation opens

10 February 2015/Categories: Industry News

A public consultation about the future of transport in Oxfordshire has been launched by the county council.

The Connecting Oxfordshire plan is designed to help the county cope with a projected population increase, since it is predicted that there will be 100,000 new homes and 85,000 new jobs in Oxfordshire by 2031.

There are a variety of suggestions included in the plan, such as a city centre tram system, a new network of cycle superhighways, increased bus capacity and a new railway station.

A new link road between the A40 and A44 has also been proposed, along with renovating junction nine of the M40. The consultation will run until April 2nd 2015.

A number of organisations are involved in the planning and approval process. Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council are being supported by the Department for Transport and Network Rail in the development of the project, along with commercial partners First Great Western.
