Sunday Tramlink services boost uptake

29 January 2015/Categories: Industry News

Transport for London (TfL) has revealed statistics showing that more frequent Tramlink services between Wimbledon and New Addington via Croydon have resulted in significantly more passengers using the trams.

Overall, the number of people taking tram journeys on Sunday has risen from 39,834 to 44,330. This represents a rise of almost ten per cent. Since December 14th 2014, trams on Line Three have run once every seven to eight minutes, instead of the previous once per 15 minutes.

However, more services are not the only improvement that has been made. A 700 m stretch of double track has recently gone into service between Mitcham Junction and Beddington Lane, which should help cut down on delays.

Future improvements are also underway, such as the construction of an extra bay to platform ten at Wimbledon station, which will allow a 50 per cent increase in service capacity by 2016 to ease overcrowding.
