Brigg railway station granted £300k investment

26 January 2015/Categories: Industry News

Network Rail has granted Brigg railway station £300,000 for a new footbridge, it has been announced.

The rail operator was initially planning to repair and repaint the current bridge, but has now confirmed its decision to replace it altogether, according to The Scunthorpe Telegraph.

Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy said: "Local councillors and I have raised resident concerns about the condition of this bridge with Network Rail for the past few years.

"As such, we welcome the decision to fully replace this bridge, which will be to the benefit of those using the station."

The current bridge only holds ten people maximum, and dates back around 120 years. As such, campaigners from the Friends of the Brigg and Lincoln Lines rail group has campaigned for its replacement.

Full designs for the bridge are yet to be released.
