Police back lower A38 speed limit

22 January 2015/Categories: Industry News

A scheme to slash the A38 speed limit is gaining support from senior police officials, as well as road safety charity Brake.

Campaigners are aiming to lower the speed limits across the entire stretch of the A38 running through East Staffordshire to 60mph before the end of the year.

They say that the plan - which is being led by the town’s MP Andrew Griffiths - would help to save lives along the road, which is known for its numerous traffic collisions.

Chief inspector Steve Maskrey, commander of the East Staffordshire local policing team, said that he has discussed the matter with other senior police officers in Staffordshire and wants to officially back the bid for a lower speed limit.

He said: "I am able to report that we would like to support the recommendation to call for a 60mph speed limit on the entire stretch of the A38 running through East Staffordshire."
