Proposals for a £25 million transport hub in central Lincoln have progressed after the city council’s executive committee approved a further £787,470 in funding. The total investment from the council has now reached £1.3 million.
The project will now create a planning application that is expected to be submitted by April this year.
The proposed hub would be located next to the city’s present train centre. It is hoped the project will regenerate Lincoln city centre with a new train and bus centre, a 1,000-space multi-storey car park, extra pedestrian footbridges and extra cycle lanes in the surrounding areas.
However, the funding is dependent on finding further investors to back the project to make up the total amount needed.
Leader of Lincoln City Council Ric Metcalfe said: “The council is sticking its neck out with this project; £1.3million expenditure is a big risk for the council. But this is so important for the city that we believe it’s a risk worth taking.”
