Multi-million pound investment in London transport schemes announced

16 December 2014/Categories: Industry News

The Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) have announced that funding levels for Local Implementation Plans (LIPs) will be maintained, despite TfL receiving less government funding for the period.

They have allocated £148 million across London’s boroughs to pay for infrastructure work that will benefit local communities while contributing to TfL’s transport goals for the city. TfL will also work with the borough authorities to help them use the money efficiently and ensure local workers can develop the skills necessary for the projects.

London's Transport Commissioner, Sir Peter Hendy, welcomed the news. He said: “This funding will help continue to deliver real improvements to communities across the capital. We are working in partnership with the boroughs to deliver hundreds of transport projects that will benefit local communities.”

There have already been a number of major schemes funded by LIPs across London. These include work at Wood Green and Green Lanes in Haringey, a major upgrade at Shepherd’s Bush, and a £1 million development of Bromley North Village.
