All Crossrail stations to have step-free access

20 November 2014/Categories: Industry News

The Crossrail project has won funding to build step-free access routes at its stations.

Combined with a previous Transport for London agreement to provide stepless access at Seven Kings, Maryland, Manor Park and Hanwell stations, the new funding means that all Crossrail stations will have step-free access.

The money, totalling £14 million, has come from the government’s £100 million Accessibility for All fund. The Crossrail stations and trains will also have other accessibility features, which include audio-visual information displays, priority seating for those less able to stand and dedicated spaces for wheelchair users.

Announcing the development on November 18th, transport minister Baroness Kramer said: “It is only right that everyone should be able to enjoy the huge benefits that Crossrail will bring.”

Mike Brown, managing director of London Underground and London Rail, agreed and claimed that the Crossrail route would contribute towards “transforming how disabled people can travel in and across the city”.
