The "SI Brexit" system is continuing to operate well. However, there has been an IT issue over the past few weeks that has caused some delays to freight on arrival into France via the short straits -- this is explained below.

Freight vehicles with goods that have diverted from the itinerary in their transit declaration have been “orange routed” because of the way the UK NCTS system communicates with the equivalent French system (“Delta T”). This is now being addressed in two stages:

1. As a temporary measure HMRC encouraged exporters and agents using ferries from Dover, to enter both Calais and Dunkerque in box 51 of their transit declarations. As a reminder, for vehicles departing from Dover you should:

• Enter both Calais Port/Tunnel code (FR620001) and the Dunkirk Ferry code (FR590002) as Offices of Transit in your declaration
• You can enter France at either port without being automatically orange-laned for Office of Transit mismatch (all other orange lane controls still apply).

This is a temporary solution for Calais/Dunkirk only and is time limited until the fix below is delivered.

2. France and then the UK will implement changes to their systems. This will allow vehicles to divert to other ports without automatically being directed to the orange lanes and is expected to be effective by mid-February. 

Vehicles will still be directed to the orange lanes if they need to be controlled for other reasons, including if they do not enter all the correct information into SI Brexit.
