Airbus A350 makes demonstration tour

19 November 2014/Categories: Industry News

Aviation manufacturer Airbus has begun a tour to showcase its new plane, the A350-900. The tour will focus on the Asia-Pacific region, in a nod to the industry’s fastest-growing market. The planes will visit Tokyo, Seoul, Hanoi, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur between November 17th and 28th.

Airbus is set to deliver its first A350-900s to Qatar Airlines by the middle of December. Qatar Airlines’ CEO Akbar al-Baker seemed please with the planes’ progress, saying: “Everything is perfect.”

The new model of plane received its safety certification from the European Aviation Safety Authority in September, and from the US Federal Aviation Authority earlier in November.

While Airbus had originally hoped to introduced the A350-900s in 2012, it pushed back the launch to resolve glitches, including a problem with wing production.

The A350-900 has carbon fibre composite fuselage, and is viewed as a direct competitor to Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. At the end of October, Airbus had received 350 orders for the new model from a total of 39 airlines.
