Govt to invest £15bn in over 100 road projects

10 November 2014/Categories: Industry News

Prime minister David Cameron is to announce £15 billion of investment in over 100 projects on the UK's strategic road network.

In a speech at the Confederation of British Industry's annual conference in London, Mr Cameron will say the money - which forms part of the country's first ever Roads Investment Strategy - would lead to the creation of hundreds of extra lane miles on the UK's motorways and trunk roads.

"This will be nothing less than a roads revolution - one which will lead to quicker journey times, more jobs, and businesses boosted right across the country," he will say.

The government is to tackle some of the most longstanding problems on some of the UK's key routes, including the A303 to the south-west, the A1 north of Newcastle, transpennine roads in the north of England and the A1 Newcastle-Gateshead western bypass.
