Crossrail 2 route announced

29 October 2014/Categories: Industry News

London mayor Boris Johnson has announced the route of the Crossrail 2 scheme that will link south-west and north-east London.

The rail line is set to run from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire to Epsom in Surrey, passing through central London via a number of locations, including Tottenham Court Road, Victoria, Chelsea and Clapham Junction.

If the £20 billion scheme is given government backing, it could transport up to 90,000 people into central London during the morning peak, as well as generating 75,000 business opportunities and supporting the equivalent of 55,000 full time jobs.

The link will significantly reduce travel times across the capital, meaning a journey from Kingston to Tottenham Court Road could be completed in just 29 minutes - 17 minutes faster than today.

Mr Johnson said: "For the capital to remain globally competitive there needs to be continued investment in our transport network and that's why we have to get cracking on planning for Crossrail 2."
