New investment has been pledged to improve accessibility at London Underground and London Rail stations.
Some £75 million of funding has been allocated by mayor of London Boris Johnson and London Underground to speed up the process of making the network more accessible for disabled passengers.
This will help to install new lifts at around a dozen more stations over the next ten years, adding to the improvements that have already been made at London Underground and London Rail stations.
The money will be used to match contributions from local councils and property developers for improvements to step-free access at a number of priority locations.
Mr Johnson said: "Great progress has been made in making an ever-growing number of stations step free, and while the picture is far from perfect, this injection of cash is another step in the right direction."
There are now 195 step-free stations from street to platform - a significant improvement on the 1998 figure of 57.
