Lincoln rail services to be upgraded

30 September 2014/Categories: Industry News

Passengers in Lincoln are to benefit from a range of improvements to local rail services.

A £2 billion package of investment has been pledged by the Department for Transport to implement the timetable improvements for the Nottingham to Lincoln train service operated by East Midlands Trains.

This will enable a number of service upgrades to be introduced, including an additional 24 trains, more frequent and faster journey times and extra carriages to complement extra morning and evening peak trains.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said rail links between communities such as Newark and Nottingham are important and the government is "investing record amounts to deliver better services across the country and boost growth as part of our long-term economic plan".

Some 11 additional stops are to be made at Hykeham each day, while there will be extra services at Carlton and Burton Joyce, en route to Newark Castle, and quicker journeys will operate on 16 Nottingham to Lincoln services.
