Govt pledges extra support for sustainable transport

08 August 2014/Categories: Industry News

Seven sustainable transport schemes across the UK are to benefit from additional funding, the government has announced.

An extra £900,000 has been allocated to existing local projects supported by the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund.

Among the recipients of the investment is Bournemouth Borough Council, which will get £50,000 to support the design of a high quality cycle route serving schools and employment centres.

Lincolnshire County Council has been awarded £160,000 for a number of schemes to promote public transport, cycling and walking.

Some £62,000 is being made available to Wokingham Borough Council to extend a programme to help households plan more sustainable travel.

This extra money will build on the £440 million sustainable transport funding that was announced on July 11th, forming part of a wider £2 billion investment package.

Transport minister Baroness Kramer said: "This additional money will help communities to build on their success and see even more people making new travel choices."
