Brexit and the Coronavirus pandemic have been causing major business and operational challenges for the road freight industry.
In addition, the UK Government is committed to significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions from road freight transport in the coming years.
The University of Westminster is undertaking a survey to understanding the issues road freight companies face with respect to all of these developments.
The survey seeks views from road freight operators of various sizes to get a better understanding of the challenges resulting from Brexit and Coronavirus, as well as the enablers and barriers to improving fuel efficiency and decarbonising their fleets.
This includes issues of fleet replacement, investment in vehicle technologies and changes to logistics operations to bring about greater fuel efficiency in the road freight industry.
The University of Westminster is especially keen to receive responses from micro and small businesses, including self-employed contractors.
Both ‘fuel efficiency’ and ‘decarbonisation’ are used in the survey questions.
‘Fuel efficiency’ refers to the quantity of fuel used in carrying out freight operations (often expressed per mile travelled), while ‘decarbonisation’ refers to reducing the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with fuel use in freight transport operations.
Your experience and opinions will help the University of Westminster to develop tools and guidance tailored specifically to the needs of small, medium and large businesses.
This research is being undertaken by the University of Westminster as part of the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
