Brighton Main Line reopens after a nine-day closure

01 March 2022/Categories: Active Travel & Travel Planning, Rail, Transport Planning

Over a nine-day line closure, Network Rail engineers worked through Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin to deliver a £15 million investment to improve Brighton Main Line.

Network Rail has said that a programme to install high-capacity and fibre-optic cable on the Brighton Main Line has made great progress. The rail operator announced that when complete, passengers can look forward to faster and uninterrupted internet and mobile connectivity from Brighton to London.

Chris Fowler, Customer Services Director, Southern Railway, said:

“Network Rail have completed an enormous amount of work that will improve service reliability for our customers across the region, well into the future. With the lines reopened we have already been able to resume direct services between Brighton and London Victoria.”

Network Rail said buses would replace trains this Saturday and Sunday, then again on Sunday, 3 April, to complete the final stages of work.
