Rigby Group acquires Norwich International Airport

12 June 2014/Categories: Industry News

Technology, hotels and aviation company Rigby Group has announced the purchase of Norwich International Airport.

The group, which also owns Exeter airport, has acquired the East Anglian transport hub from Omniport for "an undisclosed sum".

Norwich International Airport serves Norfolk, Suffolk and East Cambridgeshire and is an operating hub for the southern North Sea oil and gas industry.

Chairman and chief executive Sir Peter Rigby said: "We have continually reiterated our belief in the importance of regional airports to local and regional communities and their economies."

The Rigby Group was formed in 1975 and is the parent company for a portfolio of privately owned businesses.

Norwich Airport is to be managed by Rigby Group's airport division Regional & City Airports, which also already owns and operates Coventry Airport.

Norwich International Airport chief executive Andrew Bell heralded "a significant and positive day for the airport". He said the acquisition by Rigby Group provides a foundation for future prosperity.
