An update from HMRC

07 April 2022/Categories: Industry News

Following the update on Monday 4 April, HMRC are continuing to investigate the GVMS IT issue and have made the decision to leave the current continuity plans in place until midday Monday 11 April to allow flow at the border to continue uninterrupted while this work takes place.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this is causing and appreciate the patience you and your businesses have shown as we work through these issues.

"We will update the GVMS service availability page https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/register-for-the-goods-vehicle-movement-service-service-availability-and-issues/register-for-the-goods-vehicle-movement-service-service-availability-and-issues  to confirm that continuity plans remain in place until midday Monday 11 April. This means that until that point:

  • Carriers are able to allow goods to proceed without a Goods Movement Reference (GMR).
  • Hauliers will need other evidence that a declaration has been made, for example a reference number from CHIEF or a transit accompanying document (this list is non-exhaustive and other forms of evidence may be applicable).

"Should any of your members need support with this they can access that via the HMRC Customs and International Trade helpline: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/customs-international-trade-and-excise-enquiries "
