Manston airport 'could become garden city'

28 May 2014/Categories: Industry News

Reports suggest the site of Manston Airport could be used for the construction of a new garden city.

According to The Times, owner Ann Gloag, who purchased the airport for £1, has been in discussions with interested parties who wish to use the site to create a mixed-use development featuring thousands of homes.

If the airport site were to be classed as a garden city, it could make it easier to secure planning permission for new developments.

A spokesman for Manston airport told the newspaper: "A number of people have approached the owners with ideas for the future of the site and they will be considered over the coming months. No decisions have been made by the owners."

In March, it was revealed that the airport was losing £10,000 per day. American investment firm RiverOak offered to buy the airport for a figure of around £7 million but it was closed on May 15th, leading to the loss of 140 jobs.
