Funding announced for transport in Wales

13 May 2014/Categories: Industry News

Welsh transport minister Edwina Hart has announced a range of improvements for roads, public transport, walking and cycling routes in the country.

The upgrades will be funded by £15.4 million allocated from the Local Transport Fund to projects that promote economic growth and encourage cycling and walking.

Bids from local authorities were appraised by the Swansea Bay and Cardiff Capital city region boards, while Sustrans advised on the active travel projects.

Some £1.5 million is to be provided for the next stage of the Morfa Distributor Road scheme, while the Port Talbot to Swansea Bus Corridor - Baglan Energy Park Link Bridge will receive the same amount of money. A range of other transport schemes will also receive investment.

The transport minister said: "The projects selected will support the Welsh government's priorities for jobs and growth, by improving access to Enterprise Zones, and improving public transport to employment site."

She added that access to key services will also be improved in disadvantaged areas, while some schemes will reduce people's reliance on cars for transport.
