Evri commits to carbon free deliveries in major cities

13 March 2023/Categories: Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Evri has partnered with Zedify and Urb-it, to provide carbon free deliveries to all consumers in the Bristol Clean Air Zone.

Zedify and Urb-it will use their specialist e-cargo bikes to deliver to consumers’ homes within the clean air zone meaning that all deliveries, under 15kg, will be 100% emission-free. The number of deliveries is estimated at around 345,000 per year with savings of 57.4 tons of CO2 per annum.

Evri has also started a trial with Urb-it in Glasgow’s low emission zone to explore how efficient the bikes are as a solution ahead of the changes coming into place June 2023. It follows similar partnerships in Leeds and Manchester and future planned trials in Oxford, Cambridge and other areas as and when Clean Air Zones are rolled out.

In addition to the ESG benefits the trials will assess whether the e-cargo bikes are also more reliable in built up areas that are challenging to deliver to using traditional methods, and therefore more efficient as they move through urban areas quicker.

Nancy Hobhouse, Head of ESG said:

“We’re focused on reducing our carbon emission across our operation, using innovative products and services such as this which brings us that step closer to our net zero goal. Using these bikes means that all delivers made to consumers’ homes within the low emissions zone that are under 15kg will be done so 100% carbon free, with a single bike expected to produce a carbon saving of 3t alone.”

Simon Whitehead, Head of Bristol Hub at Zedify said:

"At Zedify, we're on a mission to get vans off streets and make cities like Bristol cleaner, safer places that are better for everyone. In 2021, we launched our award-winning cargo bike delivery service in the city. Now, with the launch of a new clean air zone, this collaboration helps to maximise our impact in dramatically decarbonising the process of getting parcels to people's doorsteps and cleaning up Bristol's air."

Kevin Kviblad, CEO at Urb-it said:

"We are delighted to work with Evri to sustainably deliver its products to their customers in the UK. Evri has high ambitions for improving its sustainability strategy, and we're pleased to be able to partner on making our industry better and our cities healthier and more liveable."
